Coffee House Latte
A latte is a type of coffee drink made with hot
milk. In Italy, coffee latte is generally prepared at homes on a
stove top 'moka' and made with hot milk. A latte is made with,
approximately one-third espresso and two-thirds boiled milk, with a
layer of foamed milk approximately equal to one-quarter inch thick
on the top. This drink is very similar to a cappuccino; the
difference being that a spoon is used to separate the layers of
foam and steamed milk in a latte, while the milk in a cappuccino is
poured free. It has also been seen that coffee lattes generally
have a lower amount of foam in them.
In 1980s, if you had ordered for a latte in an
Italian coffee house in North America, you would have got a glass
of milk —and if had you ordered a cafe latte, you would have got a
beverage with far less milk in it, and which has now come to be
known as a latte.
A latte is sometimes served even in a bowl. In
some countries of Asia, lattes are also combined with Asian teas.
Some coffee and tea shops also offer hot or iced latte versions of
chai (tea), matcha (Japanese powdered green tea). Even Starbucks
offers a warm and milky concoction known as Chai Tea Latte. Many
coffee houses have now started serving coffee lattes as the drink
becomes popular. Also contributing to the drinks popularity is the
cheaper price of this drink.
