Coffee Break Game
A coffee break is considered as a social
gathering for a snack and short downtime practiced by employees in
business and industry. Though the term is American but has become
universal in the modern world and is used whether or not
participants are actually drinking coffee. The term ‘coffee break’
is said to have originated in the late 1800's in Stoughton,
Wisconsin by the wives of Norwegian immigrants. The city celebrates
this every year with the Stoughton Coffee Break Festival where
various coffee break games are played too among other things.
Coffee breaks usually last 10 - 20 minutes and
frequently occur at the end of the first third of the work shift.
In some companies, the coffee break may be observed formally at a
set hour; in some places a cart with hot and cold beverages and
other snacks arrives at the same time morning and afternoon.
The break is often held away from the actual
work area in a designated cafeteria or outdoor area. As well as a
chance for sustenance, it is a time for gossip and small talk, or a
time to smoke a cigarette. It is a chance to wind down slightly and
"regroup" for the remaining day's work. Since, now many employees
are constantly working from their computers and prefer to have
their coffee on their desks rather than going to the cafeteria, the
concept of coffee break games have gained importance. People would
like not to leave their places and yet have a relaxing time which
is exactly what the coffee break games offer. You can play a few
arcade, puzzle, board and word games on your computer while sipping
from your cup of favourite coffee. These games need not require any
high level skills and are not addictive in nature unlike many other
computer games. These coffee break games are just to relax you up a
bit so that your mind is diverted from your work and make you feel
fresh after you have had your cup of coffee. Also, these games do
not consume much of your time; these games can be as short as a 5
minute round to a 20 minute round.
